Risk Factors
People are inclined to acquire hypertension due to the following factors:
1. Age
The risk of acquiring and having hypertension as a person gets old is likely high because of aging of nerves particularly the arteries or what is know as arteriosclerosis. Most cases, occur in the ages 50’s up.
2.Race/Ethnicity
Cultural or ethnical differences plays an important role in determining hypertension cases. Various studies proved that white races has the most figure of hypertension cases compared to black races. Black races respond optimistically to drugs particularly beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, calcium-channel blockers and diuretics. Most noted cases is that Africans and Americans while Asians are listed as the countries with lowest figures in hypertension cases.
3.Heredity
Hypertension or high blood pressure condition are said to be hereditary not because of genes which is contrary to some beliefs. Families share the same lifestyle and domestic culture. This inherited disposition is quite relevant in displaying a pattern of acquiring the disease.
4.Socio-Economic status
Education and the knowledge of hypertension prevention is said to play an important factor in the increasing figures of high blood pressure cases.
5.Gender
Hypertension are prevalent to male genders compared to women. Their lifestyles are quite active and severe compared to women.
6.Salt consumption
Salt sensitivity triggers hypertension. Americans consume salts higher compared to other races. Their fascination with fast and processed foods contains high level of sodium. Lessening salt intake is one of the good steps to prevent high blood pressure.
7.Physical activity
Physically active people are less likely to develop hypertension compared to those inactive one. Daily exercises seemed futile especially lowering down calories. In every 1500 calories burned daily, 11% of hypertension is being reduced.
8.Contraceptives or birth control methods
Most of birth control methods are hormone-based. There are pill-induced hypertension. Hormones like estrogen and progesterone defense mechanism to women , may diminish when used with contraceptives.
9.Smoking, Alcohol and caffeine intake
Nicotine, alcohol and caffeine sensitivity triggers high blood pressure. Excessive amount of intake may initiate the sudden symptoms of hypertension. Common noted symptom for too much caffeine is the palpitation of heart.
10.Drug abuse and usage
Over usage of stimulants, diet pills, steroids, anti-inflammatory drugs, cocaine, and other amphetamine drugs are quite dangerous and highly inclined for a terminal hypertension activity.
11.Insulin resistance
A condition where a body is lacking of potassium and calcium is said to be highly potential for hypertension.
12.Brought by primary medical conditions
There are medical cases and underlying cause triggering hypertension. Medical conditions like heart attack, stroke, dementia, pre-clampsia to pregnant women, kidney diseases, and abnormalities of over active endocrine glands.
